UR Field Labs — co-designing new paradigms for climate & disaster risk
The Understanding Risk Field Labs are collaborative, unstructured events where participants co-design the agenda and drive the work — producing research materials, analytical dashboards, maps and creative media during the event itself.
The 2024 Kathmandu Field Lab brought scientists, practitioners, journalists, designers and visual artists from around the world together for a month of collaborative work on Himalayan climate data: 80% of participants reported a positive impact on their career, and 90% made concrete project progress during the lab.
Backed by GFDRR, the World Bank, ICIMOD, universities and government bodies, the Field Labs are Geospatial Environment's flagship demonstration of what creative, output-oriented capacity-building looks like.
