About our practice
Earth data, scientific rigor, and a human on the other end.
We are a boutique geospatial consulting group led by an expert with 20+ years delivering mission-critical solutions for environmental and development clients. Our work bridges operational needs and scientific rigor to help organisations transform data into decisions.
From the Congo Basin to the Kathmandu Valley
Geospatial Environment grew out of a decade of academic research — mapping deforestation and shifting cultivation in Central Africa with the University of Maryland, NASA and USAID — and eight years of consulting for the World Bank's Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery.
That combination is the practice's signature: we know how the satellite data is made, and we know what an operations team actually needs from it. Hazards, exposure, forests, settlements — analysed properly, explained clearly.
And through the UR Field Labs, we're working on the harder problem underneath it all: how the climate and disaster risk community learns, collaborates and builds capacity — creatively, and on equal terms.
The practice is deliberately small and senior — and increasingly AI-augmented. We use agentic tools to accelerate spatial analysis, literature synthesis and reporting, which lets a boutique operation take on work that once needed a much larger team. The judgement, the methods and the accountability stay human.

How we work
Small. Senior. Deliberate.
Methods that would survive peer review, delivered on the timelines real projects run on. We've lived in both worlds — academia and World Bank operations.
You work with the scientist, not an account layer. Small on purpose: tailored scopes, flexible engagements, honest answers about what the data can and can't say.
An analysis nobody understands changes nothing. Every engagement ends in something a decision-maker can actually use — a table, a map, a narrative.
From dataset guidance to month-long Field Labs, we build our clients' ability to do this work themselves. Sharing knowledge is the point, not a loss leader.
