Climate risk, exposure and resilience analytics in Nepal
Governments rarely know, with accuracy, how many people live in a floodplain — or how fast that number is growing. Using multi-source satellite built-up-area datasets, this work reconstructs how settlements have expanded into hazard-prone valleys, turning raw archives into the defensible artefacts institutions can act on: built-up area per administrative unit, population estimates, and the trend lines behind them.
Much of the underlying World Bank / GFDRR consulting is confidential, but the approach is reflected in the publicly available World Bank report on climate risks, exposure, vulnerability and resilience in Nepal, co-authored as part of this engagement.
